ROBERT ALVARADO, PTA
Joined G&G: 1989
Once upon a time, in a city far far away, my journey began November 6, 1989. It was a HOT day in beautiful Bakersfield. Jim Glinn and Dan Giordano are two special mentors for me, I truly enjoyed their company and tutelage as I have expanded my professional knowledge base and expertise. I enjoy all aspects of out-patient physical therapy, with special interest in wound care and geriatric rehab.
John F. Kennedy High School, 1973, University of California at Berkeley, University of California at San Francisco
Bachelor in Arts in Physical Education, and Bachelor in Art in Psychology from the University of California at Berkeley, Attended the University of California at San Francisco for Physical Therapy, challenged the State Boards and passed for Physical Therapy Assistant 1987.
History at G&G:
I have worked in physical therapy for 30+ years. I started as a PT Aide in private practice for Tom Martin, P.T. in Oakland, CA. Then worked for Mt. Diablo Hospital in Concord, CA. I have been with Glinn and Giordano ever since I moved to Bakersfield, 1989. I have seen the company grow to present day with five office locations to serve Kern County and Bakersfield, CA. Presently, I work at the Gosford and White Lane location with Director Dave Rous.
Through my experiences I have learned and taught Lamaze class and exercise for employee health. 6 1/2 years I taught for I CAN COPE program of the American Cancer Society through Mt. Diablo Hospital. I am a 33 year survivor of testicular cancer. I helped two other friends set up a program for young people dealing with cancer, a Young People’s support group. I volunteer for the Rio Bravo Rumble and Relay for Life…7 1/2 years I was a Scoutmaster of Troop 188 in Bakersfield, an active member of the Knights of Columbus in Bakersfield, CA.
While at Berkeley, I played intercollegiate Handball and went to Nationals 1979, at Austin, Texas. My wife was a handball widow since I played many a handball tournaments around the Bay Area. I ran many a 10K events in the Bay Area and trained for two marathons 1984 and 85, in San Francisco, CA. I enjoy riding (recreationally); backpacking, fishing, hunting upland game. My favorite time is ANYWHERE at the beach with my wife and family (Morro Bay and Patrick’s Pt. California are our favorite spots.) My two children Pilar and Tomas have grown and now fly on their own. My wife Pat and I are proud parents of both our East High graduates. Pilar is a UC Berkeley Alumni and recently received her multi subject teaching credential from St. Mary’s College in Oakland. Tomas is a USC Alumni, graduated with honors in Opera and earned his Masters in Music from Roosevelt University in Chicago.
