Return to Sport Assessment

When am I allowed to return to sports?

Return to Sport Assessment

This is a question we hear on a regular basis from the beginning to the end of the rehabilitation period. Patients are eager to return to playing sports. While the progress of the tissue healing from the surgery or injury is critical in this decision-making process, there are several criteria at Glinn and Giordano Physical Therapy that we take into account when making this determination. Some of the factors that influence the readiness to return to play are listed below:

  • Range of motion (ROM)
  • Strength
  • Agility
  • Power
  • Proprioception/Balance
  • Neuromuscular control

Independently, none of these factors alone can determine when an athlete is ready to return to sports, but all must be taken into account when making the decision. Through rigorous and specific testing, we will be able to determine if you are ready to return to sport upon the completion of this examination.
